Getting a job that can support their family is critical for immigrants arriving in the United States. Although they may have been trained in their own country to be physicians, nurses, teachers, or other professionals, they may not find ready employment in the U.S. Finding an appropriate job is especially difficult for those with limited English skills.
The Employment Program at Cameron House assists low-income immigrant men and women in finding employment. The employment coordinator at Cameron House works with employers and city agencies to uncover appropriate job opportunities. We escort applicants to the job site for a workplace visit or an interview. We follow up with the applicants after they have been placed in jobs.
We also offer job readiness training in computer skills development, resume preparation, job application form completion, and interview skills. The 8-week series of 2-hour classes take place on Saturdays. We offer three sets of classes during the year. Call (415) 781-0401 Ext. 130 for more information. |
