You can help Cameron House by volunteering your time. Listed below are some of the opportunities for service. If you have a special interest or skill that is not listed below, please call us so we can arrange for a way you can help.
Summer Youth Programs
Cameron House looks for people who enjoy working with elementary school- and middle school-age children, and who have the desire to develop their own leadership skills. Apply to be a volunteer this summer. A description of each of the volunteer opportunities is given in the application packet.
The Bilingual Afterschool Programs
We are always looking for tutors to help with our afterschool program! The more volunteers we have, the more children we can help with tutoring and nurturing a healthy lifestyle! Duties include tutoring homework, arts and crafts, playing board games, monitoring computer use, and facilitating yard play. Sessions are Monday-Friday, 2:45pm-6:00pm, any help is appreciated! Basketball Coach or Assistant
The Youth Ministries is looking for individuals interested in being an assistant or head coach of one of its basketball teams this summer. We plan to have at least two teams entered into the Chinese Christian Union Summer Basketball League this summer, and are looking for coaches and managers! [ video of last season ] [ email ]
Cooking For The Volunteer Youth Leaders
Feel like cooking, or just want to say “thanks” to our volunteer youth leaders? Help us cook 6:00 pm Friday dinners! There are usually 16–20 leaders who gather for dinner and seminar prior to Club. You are welcome to cook at Cameron House, or cook and drop off food earlier (we can also freeze meals). Please contact Norma Fong Chan if interested.[ email ]
Driving Club Kids Home
Looking for a simple way to get involved at Cameron House?
Do you have a valid driver’s license, good driving record and proper insurance and are available from 10–11pm Fridays?
The Friday Night Club Program is looking for a team of adult volunteers to help drive youth home around 10pm afterwards. Friday Night Club participants live throughout San Francisco (some even from North and East Bay!). Some youth can only attend programming if they have a ride home, as parents are concerned with late night transit safety and many do not own cars.
Our youth currently need rides to these neighborhoods:
Even More Volunteer Opportunities!
Help with Our Food Program
Each week we get food from distribution centers like the San Francisco Food Bank. We package the food for needy Chinatown residents to pick up.
Helping Plan an Event
Your help on event committees is invaluable. You can help with Cameron Carnival, with February events like Soul & Elegance and with alumni reunions.
